# Quickstart

> Copy your TrueProxies service endpoint and proxy password, send a first request with cURL, and verify the exit IP before increasing traffic.

This guide gets one Residential IPv4 request working. Datacenter IPv6 has its own connection host for the city you bought; copy it from that service rather than adapting the example below.

## Prerequisites

- A TrueProxies account
- An active service, or the free trial

> **Tip**
>
> **No plan yet?** [Start trial](https://trueproxies.com/free-trial/) for the free trial, one hour of Residential IPv4 Unlimited at 10 Mbps, or pick a plan on the [pricing page](https://trueproxies.com/pricing/).

1. ### Get a plan or the free trial

   Choose a plan from [pricing](https://trueproxies.com/pricing/) or [start a trial](https://trueproxies.com/free-trial/). Checkout confirms the final terms.

2. ### Copy the issued connection details

   Open your service in the dashboard, then open **Username and password**. Copy your username and proxy password, and the **Connection host** and ports shown there: HTTP `8080`, HTTPS `8443`, and SOCKS5 `1080`. The host differs between products, so copy it rather than reusing one from another service.

   `YOUR_HOST`, `YOUR_HTTP_PORT` and `YOUR_SOCKS_PORT` in the examples below are placeholders for those values.

3. ### Make your first request

   **Residential IPv4**

   ```bash
   curl -x http://YOUR_HOST:YOUR_HTTP_PORT \
     -U "your_username:your_password" \
     https://httpbin.org/ip
   ```

   **Datacenter IPv6**

   Generate a `curl` line on the service’s **Endpoints** tab. Test that command against an IPv6-capable destination such as `https://api64.ipify.org`; an IPv4-only destination is not compatible with an IPv6-native exit.

   Replace every placeholder with the exact dashboard value. Do not construct a Datacenter IPv6 endpoint from a Residential IPv4 host.

4. ### Verify the response

   The returned IP should differ from your direct public IP and match the address family and placement assigned to the product. Test representative destinations before increasing concurrency.

> **Tip**
>
> Residential IPv4 targeting is written on the username (`your_username-country-us`). Unlimited supports country and city targeting and sticky sessions. GB-based additionally supports region and ASN. Both accept a caller-set session lifetime. See [How to connect](https://docs.trueproxies.com/proxy-instructions/how-to-connect/#options).
